Poker Term

枪口位河牌最小加注同花面(UTG River Min-Raise Monotone)

In a situation where the flop is monotone all one suit, the UTG player makes a minimum raise on the river.

Terminology Composition

  • UTG: Under the Gun, the earliest position to act preflop. UTG players typically hold a strong range because many players have yet to act behind them.
  • River: The final community card and the last betting round.
  • Min-Raise: The smallest raise possible, which is double the current bet (e.g., if an opponent bets 100, a min-raise is to 200).
  • Monotone: Refers to a flop where all three community cards are of the same suit, e.g., three hearts. Such a board texture makes flushes very likely.

Strategic Implications

On a monotone river board, a UTG player's min-raise usually indicates a highly polarized range. After UTG raises preflop, if the flop comes monotone, their range includes combinations such as high-card flush draws and top pair with a flush draw. Following actions on the flop and turn, a river min-raise typically represents:

  • Value Raise: Holding the nut flush (e.g., Ace-high flush) or a full house (e.g., a set or two pair that improves to a boat on the river). Since the board is monotone, a flush is a common made hand; the min-raise can induce a call from weaker hands while avoiding inflating the pot too much.
  • Bluff Raise: Using a min-raise to create a "cheap" bluff, forcing opponents to fold medium hands (e.g., top pair, two pair). UTG can select combos that block the nut flush to bluff on a monotone river board.

Comparison and Deconstruction

  • On a rainbow board (no flush possibility), UTG's river min-raise leans more toward value with a lower bluff frequency.
  • After UTG min-raises facing an opponent's bet, if the opponent holds a strong hand (e.g., Ace-high flush), they may re-raise; if they hold a medium hand, they often fold. Thus UTG must maintain a balance between value and bluffs.

Note

This term describes a specific situational strategy; in actual play, adjustments should be made based on player tendencies, stack depth, and dynamics.
