WSD from BB

WSD from BB

Term: Big Blind Showdown Win Rate WSD from BB The percentage of hands where a player, in the big blind position, sees a showdown after the flop and wins, out of total hands that went to showdown.

Meaning

WSD from BB (Win Showdown from Big Blind) is an advanced poker statistic that measures how often a player, when in the big blind position, sees a showdown and wins. This metric is typically calculated by poker tracking software such as Hold'em Manager or PokerTracker.

Calculation

WSD from BB = (Number of hands where the player goes to showdown from the big blind and wins) / (Total number of hands where the player goes to showdown from the big blind) × 100%.

Note: This statistic only counts hands where the player actually sees a showdown, excluding hands won when opponents fold.

Interpretation and Application

  • Normal Range: Generally, a player's WSD from BB is around 45%–55%. Because the big blind position involves passive defense and a wider starting hand range, showdown win rates are typically lower than in other positions.
  • Indicator Meaning: A value that is too high (e.g., over 60%) may indicate the player is overly aggressive from the big blind or that opponents fold too often. A value that is too low (e.g., below 40%) may suggest insufficient defense or frequent bluffs by opponents.
  • Combining with Other Data: Should be analyzed together with VPIP (Voluntarily Put Money In Pot), PFR (Preflop Raise), and WTSD (Went to Showdown). For example, if WSD from BB is high but WTSD is low, it means the player folds promptly in unfavorable situations and only goes to showdown with strong hands.

Notes

  • WSD from BB is not an independent evaluation standard and is heavily influenced by table dynamics and opponent styles.
  • Data can be unreliable with insufficient sample size (e.g., fewer than 100 hands).
  • This statistic does not apply well to late stages of tournaments, as ICM pressure distorts decisions.
