Byron Kaverman

Byron Kaverman was born in 1986 in Fort Jennings, Ohio. He attended Tiffin University, where he played soccer. He began playing poker in 2004, learning the game in home games at a friend's house. He first cashed in a live tournament in 2008 and currently resides in San Diego, California.

Kaverman's first WSOP cash came in 2008, when he finished 37th in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em event for $7,311. In January 2011, he burst onto the live poker scene by winning a $5,200 No-Limit Hold'em 8-max tournament at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), earning $320,840 – a score that remained his career-best for over four years. He then captured several six-figure prizes, including a runner-up finish in the 2014 WPT World Championship for $727,860, losing heads-up to Keven Stammen. That year, Kaverman set a WPT record for the most cashes in a single season, playing 14 of 21 events and cashing in seven.

The highlight of Kaverman's career came in June 2015 at the World Series of Poker. He won the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed Championship, defeating Doug Polk heads-up to collect $657,351 and his first WSOP bracelet. In the 2013 WSOP Main Event, he finished 34th. As of 2024, Kaverman has numerous WSOP cashes and continues to perform well in the series, including an 8th-place finish in the 2025 WSOP $25,000 High Roller for $182,902.

In May 2017, he finished fifth in the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl for $1,400,000 – his first seven-figure payday. The following year, he placed fifth in the $1,000,000 buy-in Big One for One Drop, winning $2,000,000 after a dramatic three-way all-in holding A♣5♣ against Rick Salomon's A♥K♥ and Fedor Holz's 10♠10♣. The board ran out A♦K♠2♣Q♣10♦, sending Kaverman to the rail in fifth place.

Other notable high roller results include a runner-up finish in the 2021 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown for $670,285, and a second-place in the 2022 Seminole Super High Roller for $380,580. In 2024, Kaverman won the €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em event at EPT Barcelona for €381,060 and finished fourth in the €100,000 EPT Super High Roller in Monte Carlo for €697,500. He also took second place in the €12,300 PokerStars Cuatro Knockout at EPT Barcelona for €107,400.

Kaverman's consistent success propelled him to the top of the Global Poker Index (GPI) rankings. He held the world number one position for 15 consecutive weeks from September 30, 2015, to January 12, 2016. As of various points, his career live tournament earnings exceed $22 million, placing him among the top 60 on the all-time money list.

Kaverman is known for an aggressive, pressure-filled style. He frequently uses three-bets and four-bets to put opponents to difficult decisions, and he adeptly adjusts between tight-aggressive and loose-aggressive modes. His calm demeanor under pressure has earned him the respect of peers, and he is regarded as an elite tournament player. He is also active on social media, connecting with fans via Twitter.

Kaverman remains a formidable presence on the tournament circuit. In 2025, he cashed in multiple events, including a sixth-place finish in the €30,000 Super High Roller Warm Up at EPT Barcelona for €108,200, and a 15th-place in the Triton Poker Series Jeju $100,000 Main Event for $315,000. He also finished in the money in several WSOP and EPT events, demonstrating sustained high-level performance. At the 2026 WSOP, he cashed in the $50,000 High Roller and $25,000 High Roller events, as well as the EPT Monte Carlo €100,000 High Roller for One Drop.
