Douglas Kevin Polk was born on December 16, 1988, in Pasadena, California. His father taught him chess at the age of five, sparking a lifelong love for strategy games. During his childhood, his family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. At 15, Polk competed in the World Cyber Games as a Warcraft 3 esports player under the name "T-Rider." He graduated from Wakefield High School in 2007 and later attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington, but dropped out to pursue poker full-time.
