Overview
Sinan Aydogan is an Australian poker player who made a significant impact at the 2016 Aussie Millions. While he is primarily known for his involvement in high-stakes cash games, his tournament results that year showcased his skill and aggression on the felt.
2016 Aussie Millions Main Event
Aydogan's deepest run came in the A$10,600 Aussie Millions Main Event, which drew 732 entrants. He navigated through the field to reach Day 4, where he ultimately busted in 24th place, earning AU$60,000 (approximately US$42,500).
His elimination was a brutal set-over-set cooler. According to PokerNews, Aydogan raised from the cutoff and called a three-bet from KC Wong on the button. On a flop of J♣8♦4♠, Aydogan check-raised all-in with pocket eights (a set), only to find that Wong had flopped a higher set with pocket jacks. The board ran out cleanly, and Aydogan was eliminated. Earlier in the same tournament, he had doubled up through Wong with A♠6♠ against K♦Q♠, demonstrating his willingness to gamble with short stacks.
He also survived the bubble by doubling up against Cankai Zhang. On a flop of J♣9♣3♠, Aydogan held A♦T♦ and Zhang had K♣J♦. The turn and river brought no help to Zhang, and Aydogan’s stack grew. Additionally, he executed a four-bet shove in the Main Event, moving all-in for 635,000 over a three-bet without having to show his cards.
A$1,150 NLH Event
Aydogan also cashed in Event #1: A$1,150 No-Limit Hold'em, finishing 8th place for AU$27,060. This event had 1,320 entries. His exit came after a cooler against Sean Giesbrecht. Aydogan raised under the gun with A♦K♠, and Giesbrecht shoved with A♣K♥. They were all-in preflop, and the board ran out with a flush on the river, giving Giesbrecht the win. Aydogan had earlier in the tournament used a four-bet shove to pick up pots, as seen against Matthew Wakeman and Aditya Rao.
Playing Style
Aydogan's style is aggressive and pressure-oriented. In the Main Event, he was observed using all-in moves from the small blind with short stacks and even four-bet shoving without premium hands. He is comfortable putting his tournament life at risk on draws or thin value, relying on fold equity and hand reading. His check-raise all-in with a set (two pair on board in the actual hand) also shows he is not afraid to build big pots with strong holdings.
Though primarily a cash game player, Aydogan's tournament results at Aussie Millions demonstrate his adaptability and fearlessness. His deep runs in both events earned him over AU$87,000 in total prize money from the series.
Legacy
Sinan Aydogan remains a respected figure in the Australian poker scene, especially within the high-stakes cash game community. His performance at the 2016 Aussie Millions is a testament to his aggressive approach and ability to compete against world-class fields.
