Starla Brodie

Starla Brodie was born on April 22, 1955. She began playing poker in the late 1970s and quickly made her mark at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Her first WSOP cash came in 1978, where she finished 2nd in the $200 Ladies Limit Seven Card Stud event, earning $5,040.

In 1979, Brodie teamed up with poker legend Doyle Brunson to win the $600 Mixed Doubles No-Limit Hold'em event, earning $4,500. This victory made her the first woman to win an open-field WSOP tournament, a significant milestone for women in poker.

Her second bracelet came in 1995, when she won the $1,000 Ladies Limit 7 Card Stud event for $35,200, defeating a field of 88 entrants.

Over her career, Brodie made six WSOP final tables and cashed seven times, with total WSOP earnings of $57,030.

Brodie was known for her skillful play in limit hold'em and seven-card stud, particularly in ladies events. She was described as a trailblazer and role model for women in poker. In 2024, she was posthumously inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame as a Pioneer, honoring her as one of the first women to compete and succeed at the highest levels of the game.

Starla Brodie passed away on April 8, 2014, at the age of 58. Her contributions to poker continue to be remembered.
