Tom Sundling hails from Aberdeen, South Dakota, and has been a regular on the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) circuit for over a decade. His first recorded MSPT cash came in August 2012 at Grand Falls Casino, where he finished 10th out of 215 entries for $4,797. He continued to build his resume with additional cashes in 2016 (13th for $3,460) and 2019 (30th for $1,295).

Sundling’s biggest career result came in August 2020 during the MSPT Grand Falls Casino Main Event. This tournament, the first major live poker event in the U.S. after a six-month pandemic hiatus, drew a record 518 entries. Sundling navigated the field to finish 5th, earning $27,052. He was eliminated when his ace-queen failed to hold against the ace-king of eventual champion Mark Collins.

At the 2016 MSPT Grand Falls Main Event, Sundling was involved in a hand analyzed by PokerNews. He opened with a raise from the hijack holding Q♥Q♣, then called a cold four-bet and a shove from the button, who had 6♥6♣. Sundling’s queens held on a board of A♥4♦10♦9♣2♠ to double up early in Day 1b. The hand illustrated Sundling’s willingness to commit his stack with premium pairs.

Based on observational reports, Sundling is an aggressive opener, frequently raising preflop in the early stages of tournaments.
