25BB推弃策略(25bb Push Fold)

25bb Push Fold

When the effective stack depth is about 25 big blinds, the player only adopts a strategy of either all-in or fold.

Overview

The 25BB push/fold strategy is one of the common short-stack strategies in Texas Hold'em, applicable in tournaments or cash games when the effective stack is shallow. When the effective stack drops to about 25 big blinds, the post-flop pot odds no longer favor standard raises, making all-in or fold the preferable option.

Principle

  • Reduced Post-Flop Playability: With a 25BB stack, the post-flop pot is relatively small, and the remaining chips are insufficient to support multiple betting rounds. If you only make a standard raise, opponents may call with a wide range and apply pressure post-flop, forcing you to make decisions in unfavorable situations.
  • Deterrence of All-In: When you go all-in, opponents must call the entire 25BB, so their calling range tightens significantly. Players can exploit this by selecting the correct push range to gain fold equity.
  • Mathematical Foundation: This strategy is often based on Nash equilibrium or the ICM model (in tournaments) to calculate optimal push/fold ranges. Typically, the big blind's calling range is about 25% of hands, while the small blind can push with over 40% of hands.

Considerations

  • Position and Opponent Tendencies: The push/fold range should be tighter in early position and wider in late position. Adjust accordingly if opponents call too loosely or too tightly.
  • Tournament Differences: In tournaments, ICM pressure makes the push/fold strategy more conservative, especially near the money bubble or final table.
  • Dynamic Adjustments: 25BB is not an absolute boundary. When the stack is between 20-30BB, push/fold is often mixed with small raises, and flexibility based on actual conditions is necessary.

Summary

The 25BB push/fold strategy is a fundamental tool for short-stacked players, aimed at simplifying decisions, reducing mistakes, and maximizing fold equity. Mastering this strategy effectively improves profitability when the stack is moderately short.
