BTN 100bb Steal

BTN 100bb Steal

Term: BTN 100bb Steal Refers to the action of a player on the button attempting to steal the blinds by raising when the effective stack is about 100 big blinds.

Concept

BTN 100bb [Steal] is a common stealing strategy in Texas Hold'em, specifically referring to a raise by the [Button] (BTN) against the blinds (Small Blind SB and Big Blind BB) at a stack depth of 100 big blinds (100bb) in typical cash games or early tournament stages.

Strategic Significance

  • [Position Advantage]: The [Button] is the best post-flop position. Even if the steal is called, the player retains control post-flop.
  • [Stack Depth]: 100bb is standard effective stack depth. At this depth, the stealing range is wide, often including many marginal hands like small pairs, [suited connectors], weak Ax, etc.
  • Frequency: When the blinds play tight defense, the Button can steal frequently, with a range of about 40%-60% of hands.

Risks and Adjustments

  • [Resteal]: The blinds may fight back with a 3-bet. Therefore, the Button should adjust the stealing range based on opponents' 3-bet frequency.
  • [Calling Range]: If the blinds call too loosely, the Button should reduce stealing and choose higher-quality hands.
  • Remaining Stack: At 100bb depth, the pot after a steal is about 4.5bb (if raising to 3bb). Post-flop decisions like continuation betting and later streets must be considered.

Typical Example

In NL100 (blinds $0.5/$1) with $100 effective stack, the Button raises to $3 with 7♠8♠, attempting to steal the $1.5 blinds.
