BTN AF
BTN AF
Button Aggression Factor BTN AF A statistical metric measuring a player's frequency of betting or raising versus calling on the button. Usually refers to the specific value of the Aggression Factor on the button.
Overview
BTN AF stands for Button Aggression Factor. AF (Aggression Factor) is a common statistical metric in poker data analysis, used to measure a player's tendency between aggressive actions (betting or raising) and passive actions (calling). Its calculation formula is: (Number of Bets + Number of Raises) / Number of Calls. BTN AF specifically refers to a player's AF value when seated on the Button (Dealer position).
Usage
BTN AF helps players evaluate an opponent's aggressiveness on the button. Due to positional advantage, the button typically exhibits higher aggression (since having position post-flop allows more flexible pot control). By analyzing an opponent's BTN AF, you can determine whether they are overly aggressive or overly passive pre-flop or post-flop, and develop targeted strategies accordingly. For example, against an opponent with a high BTN AF, it may be easier to trap with strong hands; against a low BTN AF opponent, you can attempt frequent bluffs.
Notes
- AF calculations depend on sample size; generally at least 100 hands are needed for meaningful reference.
- BTN AF only reflects aggressive tendencies, not directly hand strength. A high AF could result from frequent bluffs or from continuous betting with strong hands.
- Normal ranges for BTN AF may vary by game type (cash games vs. tournaments) or opponent style. Generally, AF > 2 is considered aggressive, AF < 1 is passive.
- Poker tracking software (e.g., PokerTracker, Hold'em Manager) automatically calculates this statistic.
