Poker Term

按钮位河牌单色面持续下注(BTN River C-Bet Monotone)

A continuation bet made by the button player on a monotone river board.

Concept

BTN River C-Bet Monotone specifically refers to a continuation bet (C-Bet) made by the preflop raiser who is on the button (BTN) on the river when the board is monotone (all one suit). This term emphasizes three elements: position, board structure, and betting timing.

Strategy Points

  • Range Advantage: As the preflop raiser, the button’s range contains more flush draws and made flushes, giving it a range advantage on monotone boards. If the flop and turn are also monotone and the river does not bring a fourth card of that suit, the button can represent holding the nut flush or strong hands like overpairs.
  • Bluff and Value Balance: The button’s river bet must consider the opponent’s calling range. If the river board is unpaired and monotone, the button can bluff with uncompleted flush draws or medium-strength hands, while value betting made flushes, straights, or top pair.
  • Frequency Adjustment: On monotone boards, the river betting frequency is usually lower than on rainbow boards because opponents may hold flushes and be reluctant to call. However, the button can leverage position advantage to bet after the opponent checks, forcing folds from hands that are too weak in range.
  • Board Texture Dynamics: For example, if the river is monotone J-T-8-6-2 all in the same suit, the button’s C-Bet should lean toward value betting because it is difficult for the opponent to hold a hand stronger than a flush. If the river is a monotone small board like 7-5-4-3-2, the button can bluff more often because the opponent’s range lacks high cards.

Typical Application Example

Assume the button raises preflop and the big blind calls. The flop is A♠K♠Q♠ (monotone), the turn is T♠ (still monotone), and the river is 2♠ (monotone). If the button holds the nut flush with A♠, a value bet is appropriate; holding J♠ also justifies a value bet. If the button holds K♣ with no flush, a small bet can be used as a bluff, representing a flush.

Notes

  • Against tight-passive opponents, a C-Bet on a monotone river board can lean toward bluffing because they have a high fold rate. Against loose-aggressive opponents, reduce bluffs and increase value bets.
  • Always consider the board, opponent’s range, and previous action history; avoid mechanical betting.
