按钮位自愿入池率(BTN VPIP)

BTN VPIP

In Texas Hold'em, the percentage frequency at which a player voluntarily puts chips into the pot when in the button position.

Overview

BTN VPIP is a sub-indicator in Texas Hold'em statistics, representing a player's voluntarily put money in pot rate when seated at the button. VPIP stands for Voluntarily Put Money In Pot, i.e., the percentage of hands in which a player voluntarily puts money into the pot, excluding forced blind bets. BTN VPIP specifically refers to this statistic when the player is in the button position.

Characteristics of the Button Position

The button is the most advantageous seat in each hand, as the player acts last on all postflop streets, enjoying informational advantage. Therefore, a player's VPIP on the button is normally significantly higher than at other positions. A reasonable BTN VPIP is usually 5-10 percentage points higher than overall VPIP. For example, if a player's total VPIP is 20%, their BTN VPIP might be between 25% and 30%.

Data Interpretation and Application

  • Loose-Aggressive Player: High BTN VPIP (e.g., above 40%) indicates they raise or limp with a wide range of hands on the button, attempting to frequently steal pots using positional advantage.
  • Tight-Aggressive Player: Relatively low BTN VPIP (e.g., around 20%), but still higher than at other positions; they only enter with hands they are confident in.
  • Anomalies: If a player's BTN VPIP is close to or lower than their total VPIP, it may indicate they fail to leverage positional advantage or employ an overly passive strategy.

In a HUD (Heads-Up Display), BTN VPIP is often used alongside PFR (preflop raise percentage) to gauge aggressiveness on the button. For instance, a player with high VPIP but low PFR may limp too frequently on the button, making them exploitable in later positions. Conversely, high VPIP with high PFR typifies a loose-aggressive (LAG) style.

Example

Suppose a player plays 100 hands on the button, and in 30 of those hands they voluntarily bet or raise into the pot (excluding blinds). Their BTN VPIP would be 30%. This means approximately one out of every three hands they play on the button.

Notes

A significant sample size is required for BTN VPIP to be statistically meaningful – typically several hundred hands or more. Normal ranges also vary by game type (cash vs. tournament) and blind structure. Additionally, this metric only reflects entry frequency, not postflop actions, so it should be evaluated in conjunction with other statistics.
