CO Fold to 4-Bet

In Texas Hold'em, the frequency at which a player in the CO position folds facing a 4-bet, usually expressed as a percentage.

Meaning

CO Fold to 4-Bet is a statistic that measures the tendency of a player in the CO position to fold when facing a 4-bet. This metric is commonly used to assess the preflop range strength of a CO player and their vulnerability to aggressive responses.

Calculation

This statistic is typically derived from tracking software (e.g., Hold'em Manager, PokerTracker): it represents the ratio of times a CO player folds after raising preflop and then facing a 4-bet, out of the total times they encounter a 4-bet. For example, if a CO player folds 70 times out of 100 4-bet situations, their Fold to 4-Bet is 70%.

Strategic Significance

  • High Fold to 4-Bet (>60%): Indicates that the CO player respects 4-bets significantly and folds too wide a range. Opponents can exploit this tendency by frequently 4-betting as a bluff, forcing the CO player to surrender many medium-strength hands.
  • Low Fold to 4-Bet (<40%): Suggests the CO player will call or re-raise with strong hands or some bluffs. Opponents should be cautious with 4-bet bluffs and lean toward value 4-bets.

Influencing Factors

  • Opponent Image: Against tight-aggressive opponents, the CO's fold rate may naturally rise; against loose-aggressive opponents, range adjustments may be needed.
  • Stack Depth: With deep stacks, the CO may call 4-bets with a wider range, lowering the fold rate; with short stacks, they are more likely to fold.
  • Position: The CO is in a middle-late position with positional advantage, which may make them more willing to call 4-bets.

Example

Suppose the CO player raises to 3BB preflop, the small blind 3-bets to 10BB, the CO 4-bets to 25BB, and the big blind shoves all-in for 100BB. If the CO player frequently folds in such scenarios, their Fold to 4-Bet statistic will be elevated.
