Poker Term

CO位河牌反偷动态(CO River Resteal Dynamic)

In Texas Hold'em, it refers to the strategic interaction where a player in the CO position, facing an opponent's raise or bet on the river, attempts to reclaim control of the pot through a re-raise or a large bet.

Overview

CO River Resteal Dynamic is an advanced poker strategy scenario commonly seen when a player in the CO (Cutoff) position opens pre-flop, goes through post-flop and turn action, and then on the river faces an opponent's bet or raise. The CO player chooses to re-raise or make a large bet as a resteal, aiming to force the opponent to fold and take down the pot.

Definition & Principle

The core of this term lies in the "dynamic" — the mutual adjustments between the CO player and the opponent. The CO player uses positional advantage to build aggression pre-flop but may face counter-aggression from the opponent's continued betting or raising on the flop and turn. When the river card is dealt, if the CO player believes the opponent's betting or raising range is weak (e.g., busted draws or medium-strength hands), they can take a resteal action to induce a fold. Success depends on a comprehensive assessment of the opponent's range, bet sizing, and the CO player's own image.

Application Scenarios

Typical scenario: CO player raises pre-flop, big blind calls; flop and turn both check, or one bets and the other calls; on the river, the big blind leads out or check-raises. If the CO player determines the big blind's hand is not strong and the river card does not favor the opponent's range, they can resteal (e.g., a large raise or all-in).

Notes

  • Restealing is not suitable for all situations; if the opponent holds a strong hand, the CO's resteal can lead to significant losses.
  • Dynamic balance: Frequent restealing will cause opponents to adjust; it must be mixed with value hands and bluffs.
  • Positional advantage: The CO acts last on the river, providing more information when restealing.
  • Example: CO holds A♦9♦, flop K♠7♦2♣, turn 3♠, river 8♣. Opponent checks, CO can bet to represent top pair. If opponent raises, CO can consider shoving as a resteal.
