Four Bet Pot

四bet底池

Term: Four Bet Pot A pot formed after four raises preflop (starting from the initial bet, followed by open, 3-bet, 4-bet).

Context: Term article: Four Bet Pot

Formation Process

In preflop action in Texas Hold'em, one player first opens with a raise (commonly called an open-raise), then another player re-raises (3-bet), and then a third player re-raises the 3-bet (4-bet). At this point, the pot contains the initial blinds plus the chips from four raises, called a Four Bet Pot. Typically a 4-bet is the final strong hand expression before the flop; if another raise occurs, it enters the 5-bet phase.

Common Scenarios

  • Deep Stacked Showdown: Usually occurs when effective stacks are deep (e.g., 100BB+), where players 4-bet with very strong hands (like AA, KK) or very few bluffs to force opponents to fold medium-strength hands.
  • Position and Range: When out of position, 4-bets tend to be value-heavy; in position, some bluffs (e.g., small pairs, suited connectors) may be mixed in.

Strategy Points

  • 4-bet Range: Generally, the value 4-bet range includes AA, KK, AKs, and some QQ; the bluff portion depends on the opponent's 3-bet frequency.
  • Responding to a 4-bet: When facing a 4-bet, the original 3-better should continue with strong hands (like AA, KK, or specific combos) and usually fold medium-strength hands.
  • Pot Control: The pot odds in a Four Bet Pot are usually high, so post-flop decisions must be more cautious to avoid over-committing.

Relationship with 5-bet

When a 5-bet occurs, it typically indicates an extremely strong hand (basically only AA, KK), making the Four Bet Pot a transitional stage toward all-in.
