Heads-Up SNG Bubble
Heads-Up SNG Bubble
Term: Heads-Up SNG Bubble Refers to the pressure phase in a Heads-Up SNG Sit & Go tournament where only two players remain, and only the first-place player receives all or most of the prize money, leaving the second-place player facing elimination.
Overview
In a Heads-Up SNG, the initial state is a two-player duel, typically with a Winner Takes All prize structure. Therefore, from the very start of the match, both players are in a state similar to the "bubble" in multi-table tournaments: losing the match means walking away with nothing. This stage is called the Heads-Up SNG Bubble.
Characteristics
- No Traditional Bubble: Unlike multi-table tournaments, a Heads-Up SNG does not have a process of multiple players being eliminated layer by layer; the bubble phase spans the entire match. However, strictly speaking, the tension of the bubble is most pronounced when the stacks are close and blinds are high.
- Lower ICM Weight: Under a winner-takes-all prize structure, ICM (Independent Chip Model) calculations are relatively simple: a player's chip count directly corresponds to their probability of winning the match, so the game primarily revolves around pot odds and range balancing.
- Strategic Differences: The Heads-Up SNG bubble emphasizes exploiting opponents rather than pure ICM preservation. Players need to adjust their VPIP and aggression based on blind levels and opponent tendencies.
Strategic Applications
During the Heads-Up SNG bubble, typical strategies include:
- Aggressive Blind Stealing: When the big blind level is high (e.g., blinds 50/100 with 20 BB effective stacks), the small blind's raising range should be wider to force folds.
- Cautious Calling: As the big blind, when facing an all-in, consider pot odds and opponent range, avoiding marginal hands that could jeopardize your stack.
- Mindset Adjustment: Avoid being overly passive due to "bubble fear"; moderately yield some marginal equity to reduce variance.

Summary
The Heads-Up SNG bubble essentially lasts the entire match, but players often regard the high-blind, deep-stacked phase as the critical turning point. Understanding this concept helps players develop more reasonable ranges in Heads-Up SNGs, balancing survival and aggression.
