HJ 50bb Final Table
HJ 50bb Final Table
Final Table HJ 50bb Stack Depth Refers to a player in the hijack HJ position at the final table of a poker tournament holding approximately 50 big blinds.
Position and Stack Depth
HJ stands for "Hijack", which usually refers to the position after the UTG (under the gun) and before the cutoff (CO). In a Final Table scenario, the number of players is reduced and positions are relatively fixed. HJ's decision range is typically wider, but still needs to consider the squeezing potential of remaining players (especially BTN and the blinds).
50bb (big blind) is a moderately deep stack depth. At this depth, the preflop raise size is typically 2-2.5bb, offering some ability to steal blinds and resist aggression. However, due to increased ICM pressure at the final table, all-in risks are higher. Therefore, when opening or calling from HJ with 50bb, it's necessary to assess opponents' tight-aggressive tendencies to avoid losing ICM equity by entering large pots.
Key Strategy Points
- Starting Hand Range: At 50bb depth, HJ can play about 20%-25% of hands (e.g., all pairs, Ace-high suited, K9s+, etc.). But at the final table, the range should be tightened accordingly, especially when blind levels increase and prize jumps become significant.
- 3-bet and Anti-Steal: Facing aggression from later positions, use medium-strength hands to 3-bet (e.g., AJs, KQ) with a sizing of about 8-10bb. If opponent shoves, calculate pot odds and ICM.
- Postflop: With 50bb, there is enough stack to play multiple streets for value, but avoid committing too many chips on light draws. Prioritize high-quality draws.
Final Table Special Considerations
At a final table with few players (usually 9 or fewer), ICM makes chip values weighted differently. When holding 50bb in HJ, if your chip stack ranks in the middle, avoid marginal confrontations with the chip leader. If you are the CL (chip leader), you can raise moderately to pressure short stacks. Also, pay attention to the chip distribution and avoid taking risks during the early bubble stage.
