劫位河牌干燥牌面阻断下注(HJ River Block Bet Dry)

When in the HJ position on a dry river board, use a small bet as a blocking bet to prevent opponent bluffs or control the pot size.

Meaning and Purpose

A block bet is a small bet, typically used on the river, intended to prevent opponents from making large bluff or value bets. On dry boards (e.g., rainbow flops, no straight or flush possibilities), the board structure is simple, and made hands versus bluffing ranges are relatively clear. The HJ (Hijack) is a late position, but not the last to act, so when employing a block bet on the river, consideration must be given to potential counterattacks from players in the button or blinds.

Strategic Logic

In typical scenarios, HJ players may hold medium-strength hands (e.g., top pair weak kicker or bottom two pair). These hands have showdown value on dry boards but cannot comfortably call large bets. By actively betting around 30%–40% of the pot, the following effects can be achieved:

  • Discourage opponents from bluffing with air, as if they raise, it signals a stronger range, allowing for an easy fold;
  • Extract thin value, preventing the need to bet larger after opponents check;
  • Control the pot, avoiding difficult situations where checking leads to opponents making large bets.

Considerations

Block bets are not suitable for wet boards because opponents may hold draws or already have strong hands, and a small bet merely offers good odds. Dry boards offer greater safety. Additionally, HJ must be wary of button players who might trap with strong hands; thus, the bet size should be small enough to minimize losses if raised.

Example

Assume a flop of K♠7♦2♣, turn 3♠, river 9♦. HJ holds K♦J♣ on a dry board. After checking, opponents might bluff with Ace-high or small pairs. Here, HJ can bet 1/3 of the pot: if opponents fold, HJ takes the pot; if opponents call, it may be weaker Kx or pairs; if opponents raise, HJ can safely fold.
