HJ位干牌河牌偷池(HJ River Steal Dry)

Refers to a bluffing strategy where a player in the HJ position hijack on the river facing a dry board attempts to force opponents to fold by betting, thereby winning the pot.

Strategy Background

In Texas Hold'em, HJ (Hijack) is the second position after UTG (Under the Gun), making it an early position. After preflop action, the hand progresses to flop, turn, and river. The river is the final betting round, where opponents' hand ranges are relatively clear.

Dry Board Characteristics

"Dry" refers to a board structure that is simple, lacking straight or flush draw possibilities. Typical dry boards include:

  • Rainbow boards with no flush possible (e.g., K♠ 7♦ 2♣)
  • Unconnected board cards that make straights unlikely (e.g., A♥ 9♠ 3♦)
  • Paired high boards (e.g., Q♣ Q♠ 4♥)

Strategy Principle

The goal of a river bet is to make opponents fold hands stronger than ours. On dry boards, opponents' drawing ranges are significantly reduced, and their holdings are mostly medium-strength made hands. Therefore, a HJ player holding air or weak hands can exploit the lack of protection on dry boards by bluffing.

Execution Conditions

  • Opponent Tendencies: Effective against tight-passive or high-fold-equity players.
  • Board Reading: Confident that opponent likely holds top pair or weaker and is unlikely to call on a dry board.
  • Bet Sizing: Typically use large bets (around 2/3 pot or more) to increase fold equity.

Cautions

  • Overusing this strategy can lead to being caught by experienced players.
  • If opponent's range includes strong made hands (e.g., top pair top kicker), bluff success rate drops.
  • Must consider preflop action, postflop betting patterns, and opponent data.
