HJ Turn Heads-Up Pot

Term: HJ Turn Heads-Up Pot 劫持位转牌单挑底池 Refers to a pot scenario where the player in the Hijack HJ position is heads-up with another player after the flop and makes a bet on the turn.

Overview

HJ Turn Heads-Up Pot describes a specific game stage in poker: the Hijack (HJ) player, after the flop, is heads-up against a single remaining opponent, and the Turn card has been dealt, entering a critical phase of the pot. This term is commonly used for analyzing ranges, betting strategies, and exploitative play.

Position & Range

The Hijack (HJ) is positioned after UTG and before the Button (BTN), making it a middle-to-late position. In a Turn heads-up pot, the HJ's preflop raising range is typically wide, including high pairs, suited connectors, high cards, etc. When entering the Turn, the HJ's range needs to be reassessed based on the opponent's preflop calling range and flop interaction.

Strategic Key Points

  • Continuation Bet (C-bet): The HJ often makes a continuation bet on the Turn, especially when the flop is wet and they have a range advantage.
  • Defense & Resistance: Opponents may counter by raising or floating, so the HJ must balance value bets with bluffs.
  • Positional Disadvantage: If the opponent is on the BTN or CO, and the HJ has checked, the opponent may use position to bet, forcing the HJ to fold.

Typical Example

Assume a 6-handed table, blinds 10/20, effective stacks 2000. The HJ raises to 60, only the BTN calls. Flop: K♠ 8♦ 3♣. HJ bets 80, BTN calls. Turn: 5♥. Pot is now ~280. The HJ must consider: if holding top pair or overpair, continue betting for value; if holding air, choose to bluff or check-fold.
