中间位反偷场景(Middle Position Resteal Scenario)

In Texas Hold'em, it refers to a counter-raise or re-raise made by a player in middle position usually UTG+2, hijack, etc. when they believe a player in late position is attempting to steal the blinds.

Overview

The middle position re-steal scenario is a common tactical situation in poker, occurring frequently in cash games or during the middle to late stages of tournaments. A player in middle position (e.g., UTG+2 or HJ at a 6-max table, or UTG+2 and UTG+3 at a 9-max table) will use a wider range to re-raise when observing late position players (such as the cutoff, button, or small blind) frequently stealing blinds. This aims to capture dead money and balance their own range.

Strategic Considerations

  • Opponent Tendencies: The success of a re-steal heavily depends on assessing the late position player’s steal frequency. If the late position player steals at a high rate (e.g., button steal > 40%), the middle position can re-steal with medium-strength hands (e.g., A8o, K9o, small pocket pairs).
  • Positional Disadvantage: If the re-steal fails to force a fold, the middle position will be out of position post-flop (the initial raiser in middle position is at a disadvantage against the caller in late position). Therefore, players typically choose to raise or re-raise to a larger size (3-4x the big blind) pre-flop to reduce the opponent’s implied odds for calling.
  • Stack Depth: With deeper effective stacks (e.g., 100BB+), the re-steal range should be tighter to avoid being exploited by light traps. With shorter stacks (e.g., below 30BB), the re-steal range can be widened, often by jamming all-in.
  • Range Balancing: The re-steal range should include not only weak-to-medium hands but also some strong hands (e.g., AJ+, TT+) to prevent opponents from easily reading one’s holding.

Example

Typical scenario: 6-max table, blinds 100/200, effective stacks 40BB. Middle position (HJ) holds K9o, all early positions fold. The button frequently steals to 450. Middle position re-steals to 1100, forcing the button to fold. In this example, middle position exploits the button’s high steal frequency and achieves immediate profit through a correctly sized re-raise.

Risks & Adjustments

Re-stealing is not risk-free. If the late position player is tight-aggressive or capable of adjusting, they may call or re-raise with a wider range. Middle position players should observe opponents’ reactions in real time and dynamically adjust their re-steal frequency and hand selection.
