中间位翻牌前挤压(MP Preflop Squeeze Pot)

MP Preflop Squeeze Pot

In middle position MP, make a large raise over a preflop raise and a call to force multiple opponents to fold and win the pot.

Overview

MP Preflop Squeeze Pot is a common preflop aggressive strategy where a player in Middle Position (MP in 6-max or MP1/MP2 in 9-max) makes a large raise (typically a 3-Bet or more) after one player has open-raised and at least one player has called. The core goal is to apply pressure, forcing the original raiser and callers to fold, thereby winning the dead money in the pot at low risk.

Situations

  • Typical scenario: Preflop, after the Cutoff (CO) or Button (BTN) raises and the blinds or early position players call. The MP player, holding a strong hand or a squeeze-worthy hand (e.g., medium pairs, suited connectors, Ace-high), chooses to raise to 3.5-5 times the original raise to create a pot squeeze.
  • Position advantage: Although MP lacks the information advantage of later positions, it sits relatively in the middle postflop. If the squeeze succeeds, no flop is needed; if called, postflop play requires caution.

Purpose & Reasoning

  • Win dead money directly: The pot already contains chips from the raiser and callers; a successful squeeze wins these chips risk-free.
  • Exploit player tendencies: Squeezing is effective when callers have weak ranges (e.g., small pairs, speculative hands) and the original raiser is likely to fold.
  • Balance range: Mixing value hands (e.g., AA/KK) with bluffs (e.g., A5s) in squeeze situations prevents opponents from easily reading your range.

Important Considerations

  • Opponent type: Avoid frequent squeezing against calling stations or players with low fold frequencies; it works best against tight-passive opponents.
  • Stack depth: With deep effective stacks (>100 BB), squeezing becomes riskier as opponents may slow-play strong hands or re-raise. Squeezing is more effective with shorter stacks.
  • Position disadvantage: A squeeze from MP may face cold calls from the blinds or early positions, leading to a multiway pot without position, requiring careful hand selection.

Example

  • 6-max, blinds $1/$2. MP holds 8♠9♠.
  • CO raises to $6, BTN calls $6, SB folds, BB calls $6.
  • MP raises to $30. This action is an MP Preflop Squeeze, aiming to force CO, BTN, and BB to fold.
