中间位置河牌过牌-加注(彩虹面)(MP River Check-Raise Rainbow)

In Texas Hold'em, refers to an action where a player in middle position checks on the river, then raises after an opponent's bet, and the board is a rainbow all community cards are of different suits.

Term Breakdown

  • MP: Middle Position, typically the position immediately before the CO (cutoff), acting after early positions but before late positions.
  • River: The final betting round after the last community card is dealt.
  • Check-Raise: A move where a player checks to appear weak, then raises after an opponent bets, aiming to induce more chips from the opponent.
  • Rainbow: A board texture where all community cards (flop/turn/river) are of different suits, usually meaning no flush draw is possible.

Strategic Significance

This action typically represents a strong hand (e.g., a made straight, three of a kind, two pair, etc.), using the rainbow board to block any flush draw possibilities and leveraging position advantage (acting last post-flop) to value raise. Since the rainbow board reduces the likelihood of draws, opponents are less likely to have draws, so this raise is often interpreted as a pure value hand.

Typical Scenario

Assume a $1/$2 cash game. A player in MP limps in with pocket nines. The flop comes J♦8♣2♠ (rainbow), turn is 4♥ (still rainbow), river is K♠ (still rainbow). The pot is medium-sized. An opponent in CO bets 2/3 pot. MP check-raises to 3x the bet, indicating a strong hand like KJ or top set of jacks, using the rainbow board to deny any flush possibility and maximize value.

Notes

  • A river check-raise is high-risk: if the opponent folds, you lose potential value; if the opponent holds a stronger hand (e.g., a set of kings), you may lose more.
  • A rainbow board does not absolutely rule out opponent having made draws (e.g., open-ended straight draws), but it significantly reduces the possibility of flush draws.
  • This action is less common when the preflop raiser is the one executing it, since the preflop raiser tends to favor a continuation bet rather than a check.
