翻牌前加注者延迟持续下注(彩虹牌面)(Preflop Delayed C-Bet on Rainbow Board)

Refers to the first bet made by the preflop raiser on the turn when the flop is a rainbow board after not betting on the flop.

Definition

The preflop raiser's delayed continuation bet (Delayed C-Bet) is a post-flop strategy in Texas Hold'em. It specifically refers to a bet made by the preflop raiser who checks on the flop and then bets on the turn on a rainbow board (i.e., a flop where all three cards are of different suits). Since there was no bet on the flop, the turn bet can be considered a "delayed" continuation bet.

Motivation

  • Pot Control: Checking the flop avoids inflating the pot on a dry board or when there are no obvious draws, while retaining the option to bet on the turn.
  • Disguise Hand Strength: A delayed bet may lead opponents to believe the preflop raiser missed the flop, inducing them to pay off more on the turn.
  • Leverage Position: If the preflop raiser is in a disadvantaged position (e.g., small blind), checking the flop forces opponents to act first on the turn before the raiser decides.

Applicable Conditions

  • The flop is a rainbow board: A rainbow board usually means fewer made draws, so the immediate value of a flop bet is lower, and checking allows observing opponent reactions.
  • The preflop raiser holds a medium-strength hand (e.g., top pair weak kicker, middle pair, etc.), where a flop bet cannot easily take down the pot and the raiser does not want to face a raise.
  • The opponent's range is wide or they tend to fold after the raiser checks the flop, making a delayed bet effective for extracting value.

Risks and Cautions

  • Opponents may exploit the flop check to bluff or semi-bluff raise on the turn.
  • If a high card or a straight-completing card comes on the turn on a rainbow board, the preflop raiser's hand strength may drop significantly, rendering the delayed bet ineffective.
  • The delayed continuation bet should be used in combination with opponent tendencies and table image; using it too frequently may allow opponents to adjust.

Example

Preflop: Hero (big blind) raises with A♠K♣. Flop: Q♥7♦2♣ (rainbow board). Hero checks. Turn: J♠. Hero bets 2/3 pot. This is a typical case of a preflop raiser's delayed continuation bet.
