Spin and Go Bubble

Spin and Go Bubble

Term: Spin and Go Bubble In a three-player fast tournament Spin and Go, the critical stage when the tournament is one elimination away from the remaining players being in the money.

Overview

Spin and Go is a three-player fast knockout tournament with rapidly increasing blinds, usually lasting only a few minutes. At the start, the prize pool is multiplied by a random multiplier (e.g., 2x, 3x, 6x, etc.), but only the top two receive cash prizes; the third gets nothing. The bubble phase is when the tournament reaches the point where one player is about to be eliminated and the remaining two will enter the money.

Strategy Characteristics

During the Spin and Go bubble, short-stacked players face immense pressure because losing means not only no prize but also losing the buy-in. At this point, ICM (Independent Chip Model) has a significant impact: chip values are non-linear, and the survival equity of short stacks is higher than that of medium stacks. Therefore, play tends to be tight during the bubble, avoiding confrontations. Short-stacked players especially tend to wait for opponents to clash. Medium-stacked players can exploit this by aggressively attacking the blinds of short stacks, but must be careful not to clash with another medium stack to avoid both being eliminated.

Psychological Battle

The bubble is a critical moment for psychological warfare. Players often adopt "soft play" or non-aggression pacts, but some will use opponents' fear to apply pressure. Because the prize difference is huge (first place is often several times second), some players take risks to go for first, but must weigh the risks.

Typical Scenario

Suppose the three players have stacks of 500/300/200 with blinds 50/100. The short stack (200) is in the big blind, the medium stack (500) folds from under the gun (UTG), the small blind (300) can shove all-in, and the big blind faces a calling pressure. If the big blind folds, they safely enter the money; if they call and lose, they are eliminated. Therefore, the small blind's shoving range can be wider, while the big blind's calling range will be extremely tight.
