Position and Background

UTG+1 (Under the Gun +1) is the position immediately after the under-the-gun position, belonging to early position. This position acts relatively late post-flop, but still faces multiple opponents behind when betting on the river.

Effect of a Paired Board

A paired board on the river means that someone may have made a full house or a straight flush. At this point, a player needs to evaluate the probability of strong hands in opponents' ranges. A paired board reduces the completion rate of draws, as some draws (such as straight draws) are no longer possible.

Steal Strategy

“Stealing the pot” essentially involves representing a strong hand (such as a full house) with a bet, forcing opponents to fold and thereby winning a pot that does not belong to you. From UTG+1, since there may be multiple opponents behind, the risk of stealing is higher, and the following conditions are usually required:

• Opponents' ranges are weak (e.g., mostly no-pair hands or small pairs)
• The bet size is relatively large compared to the pot, signaling a strong hand
• Your own story is logical (e.g., a combination of c-bet on the flop, check on the turn, and bet on the river)

Bet Sizing and Range

Typical bets are about 70%-100% of the pot, or even overbet. The range usually includes:

• Value bets: hands that have already made a full house
• Bluffs: hands with only a pair but no full house, using the paired board to represent a full house
• Thin value: such as top pair top kicker, but this must be considered carefully

Considerations

• If opponents know your early position range is tight, they may be more inclined to call or raise
• When the river pairs, opponents' check-raise ranges tend to be stronger
• Do not use this strategy too frequently, or you will be exploited
