UTG+1 Turn Single Raised Pot
Refers to the scenario where, in a pot that only had a single raise preflop no re-raise or 3-bet, the player in the UTG+1 position acts on the turn.
Position and Pot Type
UTG+1 (Under the Gun +1) is the position after the UTG (Under the Gun) and is an early position. The preflop pot type is a "Single Raised Pot" (SRP), meaning there was only one raise preflop, typically an open raise from an early position player, with later position players calling or folding, and the big blind may call. In such pots, the raiser usually has a wide range, and the caller also has a wide range without revealing strength.
Key Turn Strategy Points
On the turn, the UTG+1 player, as the preflop raiser (or caller), needs to consider the board structure, opponent ranges, and stack depth.
- As the preflop raiser: If UTG+1 raised preflop and continued betting on the flop, they should reassess the board on the turn. Generally, the frequency of a turn c-bet depends on the flop board structure and whether the turn card changes the局势 (dynamics). On dry boards (e.g., rainbow boards with no straight or flush draws), the turn can sustain a low-frequency continuation bet to protect value. On wet boards (e.g., with straight and flush draws), the turn should be played cautiously to avoid overbluffing.
- As the preflop caller: If UTG+1 only called preflop (e.g., from the big blind or after a raise from a later position), they are usually in a disadvantageous position on the turn (unless they were on the BTN or CO and gained position postflop). In a single raised pot, the caller's range is weaker. On the turn, they may consider betting or raising when the board favors them, but balance is important.
Common Flop Action Extensions
- If both players check the flop, UTG+1 can consider a leading bet on the turn, especially when holding medium-strength made hands or draws.
- If the opponent bet the flop and UTG+1 called, the opponent may continue betting or check on the turn. UTG+1 must decide to call, raise, or fold based on hand strength.
Overall, UTG+1 is in an early position postflop, and turn actions are constrained by positional disadvantage, requiring more attention to the fit between opponent ranges and board dynamics.
