Calculation
The formula for UTG Fold to 4-Bet is:
- Numerator: Number of times a player opens from UTG, faces a 4-bet, and folds
- Denominator: Total number of times a player opens from UTG and faces a 4-bet (including folds, calls, and re-raises)
A typical statistical sample requires at least several hundred hands to be meaningful.
Strategic Significance
- High fold rate (>60%): Indicates that the player is vulnerable to 4-bet bluffs from UTG. Opponents can frequently exploit this folding tendency by 4-betting with a wide range.
- Low fold rate (<40%): Shows that the player tends to defend (call or 5-bet) against 4-bets. Opponents should reduce their 4-bet bluffs against such players and instead re-raise with value hands.
