UTG Fold to Check-Raise

UTG Fold to Check-Raise

UTG对抗过牌加注弃牌率(UTG Fold to Check-Raise) 指位于UTG(Under the Gun,枪口位)的玩家在翻牌圈下注后,面对对手的过牌-加注行动时选择弃牌的频率,通常以百分比表示。

Overview

UTG Fold to Check-Raise (hereafter referred to as UTG FCR) is an important positional statistic in Texas Hold'em that reflects a player's defensive strength after leading the flop and facing a subsequent check-raise. This metric is typically obtained from a HUD (heads-up display) or database statistics, used to measure the aggressiveness and hand-reading ability of a player in the UTG position.

Calculation and Sample

  • Formula: UTG FCR = Number of times UTG folds after betting and facing a check-raise / Total number of times UTG bets and faces a check-raise.
  • Sample size requirement: Because this event occurs relatively infrequently, several thousand hands of data are usually needed to obtain a stable value.

Typical Range and Interpretation

  • A typical player's UTG FCR is around 40%–55%.
  • Below 40%: Indicates that the UTG player tends to call or re-raise, suggesting a range that is either too strong or unwilling to fold.
  • Above 55%: Indicates that the UTG player folds too easily when facing a check-raise, making them exploitable by opponents.
  • Example: If a player has a UTG FCR of 70%, opponents can frequently check-raise bluff against them on the flop.

Strategic Significance

  • Poker players adjust their counter-strategies based on UTG FCR: Against players with a high fold rate, increase the check-raise frequency; against players with a low fold rate, use more value hands for check-raises or switch to check-call.
  • Self-adjustment: UTG position players should avoid an excessively high FCR. They should occasionally call or re-raise with hands like top pair or better to balance their range.

Influencing Factors

  • Position disadvantage: UTG is the worst position; the player must act first post-flop and struggles to accurately gauge the opponent's range when facing a check-raise.
  • Flop texture: Dry flops (e.g., K-7-2) tend to invite check-raises after a continuation bet; wet flops require more caution.
  • Bet sizing: UTG's continuation bet size also affects opponents' decisions, which in turn influences the FCR value.
