Poker Term

枪口位翻牌前冷跟注彩虹面(UTG Preflop Cold Call Rainbow)

Refers to a situation where a player in the UTG under the gun position enters the pot with a cold call preflop, and the flop shows three cards of different suits rainbow flop.

Term Analysis

This term combines four poker concepts:

  • UTG (Under the Gun): The first position to act preflop (immediately left of the big blind), facing the widest range disadvantage due to being first to act.
  • Preflop Cold Call: Calling a raise preflop without re-raising after one or more players have already raised. Cold calling typically indicates a medium-strength hand (e.g., small to medium pairs, suited connectors) or a strong hand being slow-played.
  • Rainbow: A flop where all three cards are of different suits, meaning the probability of a flush draw is low, so no flush draw exists on the flop.

Situation Interpretation

When a player cold calls from UTG, their range is usually weak or limited to specific hand types. Common scenario:

  • An early position raiser (e.g., MP or CO) raises, and the UTG player calls.
  • The calling range may include: 22-77 (small to medium pairs), A2s-A9s (suited Ax hands), suited connectors (e.g., 78s), but typically excludes strong hands (e.g., AA/KK/AK, which should usually be re-raised).

When the flop is a rainbow (e.g., K♠7♦2♥):

  • No flush draw exists; opponents' draws are limited to straight draws or top pair or better.
  • For the UTG cold caller, if they hit the flop (e.g., top pair, middle pair, set), their hand is well-disguised; if they miss, they face pressure from a continuation bet.

Strategy Points

  • As the cold caller: Consider the flop structure. On a dry rainbow flop, you can float or bluff-raise, but pay attention to your opponent's c-bet frequency. With small to medium pairs, if the flop cards are all higher than your pair, you should often fold.
  • As the raiser: Against an UTG cold caller on a rainbow flop, use position advantage to continuation bet, forcing the opponent to fold missed hands.

Notes

This term is not a standard poker name but rather a description used by players for this specific scenario. In practice, adjust strategy based on factors like ICM, stack depth, etc.
