Poker Term

枪口位翻牌前最小加注干燥面(UTG Preflop Min-Raise Dry)

from UTG while anticipating a dry flop texture.

Overview

UTG (Under the Gun) refers to the first player to act preflop, generally considered one of the most disadvantageous positions. Preflop Min-Raise means raising to the minimum legal amount preflop (usually twice the big blind). "Dry" here refers to a flop texture that is dry, i.e., with no obvious draws (such as flush or straight draws). This term describes a scenario where the UTG player makes a min-raise preflop and the flop comes dry.

Strategic Implications

  • Range & Exploitation: UTG typically uses a tight range, while a min-raise can induce wider re-raises or calls. On a dry flop, UTG can continuation-bet (C-Bet) to represent a strong hand, as the dry texture makes it easier for opponents to fold marginal hands.
  • Example: Blinds 2/5, UTG player holding A♠K♠ min-raises to 10, big blind calls. Flop comes 8♦2♠3♣ (dry board). UTG bets 10, big blind folds. This illustrates a typical scenario of extracting value on a dry board.
  • Caution: A min-raise from UTG is generally not recommended because it weakens the range and can be exploited by opponents with position. It should only be used in specific exploitative situations, such as against overly tight players.
