枪口位干燥牌面河牌诈唬(UTG River Bluff Dry)

Overview
UTG River Bluff Dry is a bluffing strategy executed by the UTG player on the river on a dry board (e.g., rainbow flop, no straight or flush draws possible). This play typically occurs after the player has fired continuation bets (C-bets) on the flop and turn, and the river does not change the board structure, while the opponent's calling range is weak.
Principle
A dry board means the river rarely improves the opponent's drawing range, so the opponent's calling range consists mainly of top pairs or weak pairs. If the UTG player bets on all three streets, it represents a very strong hand (e.g., a set or two pair). An opponent holding only one pair will often fold on the river. The bluffer exploits this psychology by mimicking the betting pattern of a value hand, forcing the opponent to fold marginal hands.
Applicable Scenarios
- The board is dry with no draws completing, e.g., flop K-7-2 rainbow, turn 4, river 9.
- The opponent's range is tight and tends to fold under three-street pressure.
- The UTG player has a tight image, making their bets more intimidating.
Risks
- If the opponent has a top pair and suspects a bluff, they may hero call.
- Bet sizes on dry boards are often large, so getting called can be costly.
- Using this play too frequently destroys balance, making it exploitable by regular players.
Example
Assume you raise from UTG, flop K-7-2 rainbow. You C-bet 2/3 pot, opponent calls. Turn 4, you bet 2/3 pot again, opponent calls. River 9, the pot is large; you bet about 80% pot. If the opponent only holds a weak pair, they may fold. This is a classic UTG River Bluff Dry.
