枪口位河牌彩虹面(UTG River Open Rainbow)

utg-river-open-rainbow: Refers to the situation on the river where the preflop UTG player faces a rainbow board no flush possible.

Position and Board Texture

UTG (Under the Gun) is the first player to act preflop, usually at a disadvantage postflop. River is the last community card. Open Rainbow refers to a board where all cards are of different suits, with no possible flush draw or made flush, i.e., the board is a "rainbow."

Strategic Implications

On a rainbow river, there is no flush threat, and the board value is clear. The UTG player typically has a strong range here, given the high likelihood of a preflop raise and continued betting postflop. For the UTG player, facing a rainbow board on the river, the following points should be considered:

  • If the board is dry (no straight possible), the UTG player's value betting range can be wider, as the opponent's calling range is less concerned with draws.
  • If the board has straight possibilities, the UTG player needs to balance value bets and bluffs to avoid being exploited.
  • Due to being out of position, the betting size on the river must be careful to avoid being raised and facing a tough decision.

Typical Scenario

For example, the UTG player raises preflop, continues betting on the flop and turn, and the river brings a board of K♠9♥4♦2♣Q♠. This is a rainbow board with no straight possible. At this point, if the UTG player holds AK, they can value bet; if holding air, they need to consider whether the opponent's fold equity is sufficient to support a bluff.

Notes

The above strategies are general principles. Actual play should be adjusted based on player type, dynamics, and stack depth. The term itself only describes a specific situation and does not prescribe a fixed play.
