Poker Term

枪口位转牌干燥牌面挤压(UTG Turn Squeeze Dry)

In the turn round, the UTG player makes a large re-raise over a flop bet or raise, representing a strong hand on a dry board to force opponents to fold.

Term Composition

  • UTG (Under the Gun): The first player to act preflop, typically representing a strong range.
  • Turn: The fourth community card.
  • Squeeze: Usually refers to a large re-raise preflop to force out intermediate callers; here extended to a similar play on the turn.
  • Dry: Refers to a dry board with no obvious drawing possibilities (e.g., rainbow board with no straight draw), such as J♠7♣2♦ followed by a turn of 4♣.

Typical Scenario

An UTG player raises preflop, and multiple players call. The flop is dry, UTG bets, and some players call. On the turn, facing an opponent's bet or raise, UTG chooses to make an overbet re-raise (i.e., a "squeeze"), intending to represent a very strong hand (e.g., a set, two pair) and force opponents with draws or medium-strength hands to fold.

Strategic Considerations

  • This play relies on the credibility of the UTG preflop raising range; opponents are more likely to believe UTG holds a big pair or a strong top pair.
  • A dry board reduces opponents' drawing possibilities, making the raise more threatening.
  • Range balancing is necessary to avoid overusing this play and being exploited by opponents.

Notes

This term is not a standard poker term but a description of a specific situation. In practice, it is often simplified to "turn squeeze on a dry board."
