WTSD from UTG+1
WTSD from UTG+1
WTSD from UTG+1 The frequency of seeing a showdown after entering the pot from the UTG+1 position.
Definition
WTSD (Went to Showdown) represents the frequency with which a player who enters a pot ultimately reaches showdown. When this metric is limited to a specific position, such as UTG+1 (Under the Gun +1, i.e., the player to the immediate left of the under-the-gun position), it reflects the player’s proportion of entering a pot from that position and going to showdown.
Calculation
WTSD from UTG+1 = (Number of times the player reached showdown from that position) ÷ (Total number of times the player entered the pot from that position). It is usually expressed as a percentage, and the data sample must be large enough to be statistically significant.
Interpretation
- High WTSD (e.g., > 35%): Indicates that the player in this position tends to go to showdown with strong hands or has difficulty folding. This may suggest a lack of bluffing or semi-bluffing ability. It could also reflect that the player is reluctant to fold when facing resistance.
- Low WTSD (e.g., < 25%): Suggests that the player in this position is more inclined to force opponents to fold through bets or raises postflop, or is able to let go of weak hands in time. Such players may be better at leveraging positional advantage with an aggressive style.
Combining with Other Metrics
Looking at WTSD in isolation has limited value. It should be analyzed together with VPIP (Voluntarily Put in Pot) and PFR (Preflop Raise Percentage). For example:
- If UTG+1 has a high VPIP but low WTSD, it indicates the player frequently enters the pot but rarely reaches showdown, potentially taking aggressive action with medium-strength hands.
- If VPIP is low and WTSD is high, the player’s entering range is strong, suggesting a tendency toward value betting.
Positional Factors
UTG+1 is an early position, putting the player at a disadvantage postflop. Therefore:
- A high WTSD from this position may imply that the player is facing passive opponents or has an overly wide range.
- A low WTSD suggests the player is able to correctly fold marginal hands or is more adept at navigating the positional disadvantage.
