Dan Weitzenkorn

Dan Weitzenkorn was born and raised in Williamsville, New York. He earned a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Florida (1974–1978) and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Outside of poker, he has spent nearly 40 years as the President of The Eye Doctor, an optometry practice based in Aspen and Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Weitzenkorn has recorded 7 WSOP-related cashes, all at Harrah's Cherokee WSOP Circuit events. His best finishes include two runner-up results for third place:

In February 2016, Weitzenkorn led the Day 2 chip counts of the Seminole Hard Rock $1M Escalator Series Event 3 ($350 buy-in, $300,000 guaranteed). Starting with 15,000 chips, he built a stack of 298,500, holding a slight edge over the field of 1,286 entries. The event paid 120 spots, though his final finish is not recorded.

Earlier in 2016, he also accumulated a chip lead during Flight 1E of the Coco Poker $350 Deep Stack event, knocking out an opponent with a runner-runner flush to reach 61,275 chips. That event marked his first recorded cash earlier that year at the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

While specific details are limited, reports indicate Weitzenkorn is an aggressive player comfortable building large stacks. At the 2016 Escalator Series, he turned a 15,000 starting stack into nearly 300,000 by Day 2. In a Coco Poker flight, he flopped a gutshot/flush draw and hit on the river to eliminate an opponent holding two pair, showing a willingness to apply pressure.

Weitzenkorn resides in Aspen, Colorado, and continues to run The Eye Doctor, an optometry business he founded in 1986. His background in biochemistry and long career in healthcare contrast with his poker hobby.
