Espen Jorstad is a Norwegian professional poker player best known for winning the 2022 WSOP Main Event for $10,000,000, becoming the first champion from Norway. With two WSOP bracelets and over $18.8 million in live earnings, he is one of the most successful Scandinavian players in history.

Early Life and Background

Espen Uhlen Jørstad was born in May 1988 in Levanger Municipality, Norway. He holds a master's degree in brewing science from the University of Copenhagen and worked at a brewery before turning to poker full-time. He currently resides in London, England.

Online Poker and Streaming Career

Jorstad began his poker journey online, playing under the aliases "Hymn2ninkasi" on PokerStars and "COVFEFE-19" on online poker, primarily focusing on cash games. In 2016, he started streaming on Twitch as "uhlenpoker", initially as a sponsored Unibet Poker pro, later rebranding to the group channel "overbetexpress". He amassed over 20 WSOP Online cashes, including a sixth-place finish in the 2021 WSOP Online Main Event for $603,058.

World Series of Poker Success

Jorstad's first WSOP final table came in 2020, finishing fifth in a $400 Fifty Stack online event. In 2022, he broke through by winning his first bracelet in Event #55: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold'em alongside Patrick Leonard, earning $74,042 each.

Later that summer, he won the $10,000 WSOP Main Event in a record field of 8,663 players. On the final hand of heads-up play against Adrian Attenborough, Jorstad held Q♦ 2♠ on a board of 4♥ 2♥ 2♣ 8♠ Q♣ to make a full house, securing the $10,000,000 first prize. He became the first Norwegian Main Event champion and skyrocketed to the top of Norway's all-time money list.

He also finished 7th in the €25,000 EPT Barcelona High Roller (2025) and 12th in the $100,000 Triton Main Event (2025).

As of June 2025, his total live tournament earnings exceed $18,852,000 making him the all-time money leader from Norway.

Playing Style and Recognition

Jorstad is known for a balanced, aggressive style with strong ICM awareness in tournament late stages. He is a GTO Wizard ambassador and frequently emphasizes discipline and continuous learning. His calm demeanor and analytical approach have made him a respected figure in the poker community.

He has also been active in the European Poker Tour (EPT) and World Poker Tour (WPT), with multiple cashes in both circuits. His nickname "Espen" means "bear" in Norwegian, though he does not use it as a persona.

Legacy
