BTN Fold to 4-Bet

BTN Fold to 4-Bet

Term: BTN Fold to 4-Bet The frequency with which the button player chooses to fold when facing an opponent's 4-bet, typically expressed as a percentage.

BTN Fold to 4-Bet

Meaning

BTN Fold to 4-Bet measures the probability that the Button (BTN) player folds his hand after facing a 4-bet preflop. It is an important statistic for evaluating a player's tendency to fold against an aggressive re-raise.

Calculation Method

This statistic is usually obtained from hand histories or tracking software. It is calculated as the number of times the Button folds to a 4-bet divided by the total number of times he faces a 4-bet (excluding all-in situations). For example, if BTN folds 7 times out of 10 4-bet situations, his Fold to 4-Bet is 70%.

Application Scenarios

  • Against Aggressive Players: If an opponent's BTN Fold to 4-Bet is very high (e.g., over 70%), it means he rarely defends against 4-bets, so the 3-bettor can use a wide range for 4-bet bluffs.
  • Strategy Adjustment: If the value is very low (e.g., under 40%), it indicates the BTN player tends to resist 4-bets, so you should reduce 4-bet bluffs and use more value 4-bets.

Strategic Significance

The BTN position is the most advantageous preflop position, so players usually raise with a wide range. However, when facing a 4-bet, the BTN's folding behavior directly affects the 3-bettor's profitability. Skilled players balance their 4-bet range to keep the BTN Fold to 4-Bet in a reasonable range (typically 50%-60%).

Notes

  • Sample size needs to be sufficiently large (at least a few hundred hands) to be statistically significant.
  • This statistic is influenced by opponent style and should be analyzed together with other data such as 3-bet frequency and 4-bet range.
