CO位置翻牌前加注-弃牌对子(CO Preflop Raise-Fold Paired)

A strategy of raising with a pocket pair from the CO position cutoff, to the right of the dealer pre-flop, then folding when facing a re-raise.

Overview

CO Preflop Raise-Fold Paired is a preflop strategy for small-to-medium pocket pairs (e.g., 22-77). The core idea is to raise from the Cutoff (CO) position with these pairs, attempting to steal the blinds or isolate weak players. However, when facing a 3-bet from the blinds or later positions, you fold—since small pairs are unlikely to flop strong hands (they need to hit a set to be profitable), and the implied odds are insufficient against the opponent's range (often containing larger pairs or high cards). Folding avoids being stuck in a tough postflop situation.

Applicable Scenarios

  • Small-to-medium pocket pairs (22-77): These pairs typically need to flop a set to be profitable. Against a 3-bet, the probability of hitting a set is about 12%, and the opponent's range often includes bigger pairs or high cards (e.g., AK), making the call -EV.
  • CO position: This position is close to the button, offering good steal opportunities, and it's late enough to observe opponents' actions.
  • Opponent has a high 3-bet frequency: If opponents 3-bet often, the raise-fold strategy minimizes losses.

Strategy Logic

  1. Purpose of raising: Use positional advantage to force blinds to fold and win the pot directly, or to isolate a weak player.
  2. Reason for folding to a 3-bet: When small pairs miss the flop (no set), they are very weak (only one pair) and easily dominated by top pairs or overcards. Calling a 3-bet leads to playing a medium-sized pot, which is difficult postflop.
  3. Benefit of folding: You only lose the initial raise amount, avoiding larger postflop investments.

Notes

  • If an opponent's 3-bet range is extremely tight (only AA, KK), the implied odds for a small pair might be sufficient, but this is hard to determine accurately.
  • High pairs (88+) or premium pairs (KK, AA) do not apply to this strategy—they should re-raise or call.
  • In deep stack scenarios, the implied odds for small pairs calling a 3-bet may improve; adjust based on specific stack depths.

Summary

CO Preflop Raise-Fold Paired is a conservative preflop strategy that leverages position and steal opportunities while controlling risk, avoiding involvement in large pots with weak pairs.
