HJ位75bb偷盲(HJ 75bb Steal)

HJ 75bb Steal

When holding about 75 big blinds in effective stack at the hijack HJ position, a strategy of raising to directly win the blinds and dead money in the pot.

Position Background

HJ (Hijack) is the position after the under-the-gun (UTG) and before the cutoff (CO) in a full-ring (9-handed) game. This position is in the middle-late area, offering good steal opportunities, but still requires caution against the three players behind (CO, BTN, and blinds) who may re-steal or call.

Stack Depth Impact

75 big blinds is considered medium-deep stack. At this depth, the pot odds for a steal raise (typically 3-3.5 big blinds) are more reasonable, and there is still enough stack for post-flop betting and bluffing. However, if re-raised, the loss from folding is relatively manageable.

Stealing Range

A typical stealing range includes: after everyone folds to HJ, use about 30%-40% of starting hands to raise, especially tending toward suited connectors, small pairs, suited Ax, and other marginal hands, as well as all strong hands (like TT+, AQ+) to balance the range. However, the actual range should be adjusted based on opponents:

  • If the blinds have a high fold-to-steal rate, you can widen the range.
  • If CO or BTN frequently 3-bet, tighten the stealing range and prepare to 4-bet or fold.

Risks and Rewards

  • Reward: Directly win the dead money in the pot (blinds + antes), accumulating chips.
  • Risk: Being 3-bet or called and then playing post-flop out of position requires careful handling. At 75bb depth, there are still many post-flop streets, so avoid entering multi-way pots with weak hands.

Execution Tips

  • Avoid a fixed pattern; mix up your stealing frequency.
  • Against tight-passive blinds, you can steal frequently; against loose-aggressive re-stealers, be more cautious.
  • If the players behind have deep stacks (e.g., 100bb+), the risk of stealing increases, so tighten your range.
  • Utilize the ante to increase the dead money in the pot, making stealing more attractive.
