Poker Term

HJ河牌成对挤压(HJ River Squeeze Paired)

A squeeze raise by the HJ Hijack position player on the river when the board is paired, aimed at forcing opponents with made hands or draws to fold.

Overview

HJ River Squeeze Paired is a poker term used in specific scenarios, describing a squeeze raise executed by the player in the Hijack position when the river pairs the board. This term is typically used in cash games or deep-stack tournament situations.

Strategic Background

A squeeze originally refers to a large re-raise made by a later-position player after an initial raise and multiple callers, forcing the callers to fold. River squeeze raises are less common, but when combined with a paired board, they can become an effective pot-stealing tool. The Hijack position (one seat to the right of the Cutoff) offers a positional advantage, especially on paired boards where opponents are more likely to hold marginal or strong hands and face difficult decisions.

Key Elements

  • Paired Board: The river creates a pair (e.g., a board pair), increasing the possibility of full houses or quads, but also potentially rendering opponents' draws completely dead.
  • Target of the Squeeze Raise: Typically aimed at the previous bettor or caller, especially when the river bet is perceived as weak or thin value.
  • Range Considerations: The HJ player must assess the opponent's preflop range and previous actions to gauge the likelihood of a strong hand, avoiding being re-raised.

Typical Application

Example: HJ raises preflop, CO calls, both blinds call. Flop: A♥9♦3♠. Action leads to turn 4♦, river 3♥ (paired board). An opponent bets, and HJ raises, attempting to force the opponent to fold marginal hands like weak Aces or small pocket pairs.

Caution

This term is extremely rare in poker strategy literature and is more of a tactical description among players. In practice, careful evaluation of opponent tendencies and stack depths is required; overuse can be easily exploited.
