Hyper Turbo Middle Stage
Term: Hyper Turbo Middle Stage The middle stage of a hyper turbo poker tournament with extremely short blind levels (usually 1-2 minutes), where stack depths are shallow and players face immense blind pressure.
Hyper Turbo Middle Stage
Overview
Hyper Turbo is a tournament format with extremely fast blind level increases, typically every 1–2 minutes. The middle stage generally refers to when the blinds have risen to 15%–25% of the starting stack. For example, with a starting stack of 1,000, blinds at 150/300 mark the entry into the middle stage.
Features
- Shallow stacks: Average stacks are usually below 20 big blinds, with many players holding only 10–15 big blinds.
- Fast pace: Every hand can be critical; fold equity decreases and preflop all-ins become frequent.
- [ICM pressure]: Near the money bubble, short-stacked players tighten their ranges to avoid elimination, while big stacks can apply aggressive pressure.
Strategy Adjustments
- Hand quality: Tighter than in standard tournaments, especially from late position. Avoid marginal hands that can lead to large pots.
- Jamming and calling: The [jam range] should be moderate (about 15–20% of hands), while the [calling range] needs to be stronger (e.g., [TT]+, [AQs]+).
- [Blind stealing]: Exploit fold equity by jamming with a wider range from the small blind or button (about 30% of hands), but be aware of opponents' calling tendencies.
- [Big stack] play: Can jam more frequently to apply pressure, but avoid overdoing it to prevent being exploited.
Typical Example
Blinds 150/300, ante 30, stack 4,000 (about 11 big blinds). Preflop you hold A♠8♠ on the button. Folded to you, you can jam to steal the blinds. If the small blind has a deep stack and a tight calling range, the success rate is high.
Notes
- Avoid slow-playing: In [hyper turbo] tournaments, structure value is extremely low, so aim to end pots quickly.
- Pay attention to opponents' stack sizes: Players with different stack sizes have vastly different ranges, so adjust accordingly.
