超级卫星赛后期策略(Late Stage Super Satellite Strategy)

Late Stage Super Satellite Strategy

In the late stages of a super satellite close to the money bubble, a special strategy adopted to maximize the probability of winning a main event ticket.

Core Principles

Unlike regular tournaments, the goal of a super satellite is not to achieve the highest finish, but to ensure entry into the prize pool (usually the top few spots win tickets). In the later stages, chip distribution is extremely uneven, short-stacked players face high survival pressure, and big stacks must also be careful not to give opponents a free path to qualification.

Key Adjustments

  • Significant [ICM Pressure]: The closer you are to the prize pool, the greater the influence of ICM (Independent Chip Model). After a small stack shoves all-in, if a [big stack] holds a marginal hand, they should generally fold, because risking elimination of an opponent does not significantly increase their own ticket probability, and may instead let other players profit.
  • Avoid Large Pots: In later stages, avoid entering large pots against players with similar or larger stacks, especially when out of position. Letting other players eliminate each other is a better option.
  • Short Stacks Aggressive, Big Stacks Conservative: Short-stacked players should increase their shoving frequency to accumulate chips via fold equity; big stacks should mostly wait and avoid calling short stack shoves with suboptimal hands.
  • Exploit the Bubble Effect: When the bubble is about to burst, big stacks should almost never call any shove unless holding a very strong hand; small stacks should actively shove with any playable hand.

Example

Assume 9 players remain, top 5 win tickets, and you are 4th in chips, close to the average stack. If the 8th place player shoves all-in and you hold [A9o], you should generally fold, because calling and losing would push you out of the safety zone, while winning provides only a limited increase in ticket probability.

Common Mistakes

  • Chasing First Place in Chips: In a super satellite, having the most chips and the last qualifying spot have equal value, so you should not risk accumulating unnecessary excess chips.
  • Underestimating the Bubble’s Power: During the bubble, [big stacks] should extremely tighten their calling range, while small stacks can appropriately widen their shoving range.
