MP 100bb Call Off

MP 100bb Call Off

Middle Position 100bb Call Off MP 100bb Call Off Refers to the decision or situation where a player in middle position MP with an effective stack of 100 big blinds calls an opponent's all-in.

Term Explanation

MP (Middle Position) is a poker position located after UTG and before the Hijack (HJ). In a 6‑handed game it is usually the 3rd seat (UTG+1), and in a 9‑handed game it covers the 3rd and 4th seats. This position acts relatively early with limited information, so the preflop range must be tighter.

100bb refers to an effective stack of 100 big blinds (Big Blind), a standard deep‑stack depth. At this depth players have enough chips for multiple betting rounds and more decision‑making room. However, calling an all‑in requires careful consideration of pot odds, opponent’s range, and potential loss.

Call Off means to call an all‑in bet. When an opponent shoves, the player chooses to call rather than fold or raise. This is a passive but sometimes necessary decision, common when facing a short‑stacked opponent’s aggressive all‑in on later streets or with draws/made hands.

Application Scenarios

  • Preflop: If an opponent shoves 100bb from an early position, MP may call with strong hands like TT+ or AQ+, but usually folds weaker hands due to the tightened range.
  • Postflop: If MP hits a strong made hand or a draw after the flop, and the opponent shoves (or creates an all‑in situation by raising), calling requires calculating odds and equity.

Notes

  • At 100bb depth, calling an all‑in typically involves committing most of the stack, so strong hand strength or favorable pot odds are necessary.
  • This term is commonly used in discussions about short‑stack strategies in tournaments or deep‑stack confrontations in cash games.
