中位20bb偷盲(MP 20bb Steal)

MP 20bb Steal

When holding approximately 20 big blinds in middle position MP, a strategic play of raising to attempt to steal the blinds and antes.

Overview

MP 20bb Steal is a common short-stack strategy in Texas Hold'em tournaments or deep-stack cash games. When a player in middle position (typically UTG+1 on a 6-max table or UTG+2 on a 9-max table) holds roughly 20 big blinds (bb), they can open-raise with a relatively wide range, aiming to force the blinds to fold and win the dead money (blinds and antes) in the pot.

Strategy Background

20bb falls into the short-stack range (usually 15-25bb), where a player has limited post-flop maneuverability but still enough chips to apply pressure. Middle position is after the under-the-gun position, offering more information than the blinds but more susceptible to 3-bets compared to later positions. Therefore, the stealing range typically includes medium-strength hands, such as: all pairs (22+), some suited connectors (e.g., 56s, 67s), and A with a small kicker (A2s-A5s), etc. These hands have some playability post-flop and help balance the range.

Execution Points

  • Raise sizing: Typically raise to 2-2.5bb, avoiding too large (easy to counter) or too small (encourages blinds to call).
  • Hand reading and image: If the blinds have a high fold rate (e.g., tight-passive players), steal more frequently; otherwise, tighten up.
  • Subsequent actions: When facing a 3-bet, generally fold (unless holding a strong hand like TT+, AQ+), as 20bb is insufficient to play post-flop out of position.
  • Tournament ICM: Near the payout bubble or final table, consider ICM pressure and reduce stealing frequency accordingly.

Common Pitfalls

Overly aggressive stealing can lead to counterattacks from later positions (e.g., the button) with wide ranges, especially if they also have around 20bb. Additionally, if a blind has a strong defensive mindset, reduce steals and wait for better opportunities.

Summary

MP 20bb Steal is a standard short-stack maneuver, but it must be adjusted based on opponent tendencies and table dynamics. Mastering its timing and range can improve profitability.
