Poker Term

中间位转牌三连注单色牌面(MP Turn Triple Barrel Monotone)

Refers to a strategy where a player in the middle position MP faces a monotone board flop, turn, and river all of the same suit and bets on all three streets: flop bet, turn bet, and river bet.

Term Breakdown

  • MP (Middle Position): In a six-handed or nine-handed table, the seat after early position and before late position, usually the third to act. MP players have a wider preflop range but less positional advantage than late position.
  • Turn: The turn round, i.e., the betting round after the fourth community card is dealt. Although "Turn" is prominent in this term, it actually refers to the complete betting sequence across three streets.
  • Triple Barrel: The act of betting on the flop, turn, and river consecutively, with each bet being a "barrel". This is an aggressive line, usually representing a strong hand or sustained pressure.
  • Monotone: The community cards on the board are all of the same suit (e.g., three hearts), making flush draws highly possible. On such a board, any player holding a flush draw or a made flush significantly impacts hand strength.

Strategic Implications

When triple barreling on a monotone board, an MP player typically needs to weigh the following factors:

  • Range Consistency: MP's preflop raising range includes many offsuit hands (e.g., offsuit high pairs, connectors), but triple barreling requires the player to bet on all three streets. Therefore, the actual hand must be strong enough to be profitable (e.g., top pair top kicker, top pair with a flush draw, or a made flush).
  • Opponent Reactions: Monotone boards tend to induce folds because ordinary pairs fear the opponent holding a flush. Triple barreling can force opponents to fold medium-strength hands, but it also invites raises from opponents with flushes or strong draws.
  • Bet Sizing: A typical strategy is to bet small on the flop (about 1/3 pot), increase on the turn (about 2/3 pot), and the river bet depends on whether the flush completes. If the fourth flush card comes on the river, the player must be wary of opponent flushes.

Notes

This term describes a specific scenario, not a fixed name for a standard tournament. In practice, MP players rarely triple barrel without a flush draw or made hand, because a monotone board is highly susceptible to re-raises.
