Online Timing

线上计时

**Online Timing** The thinking time mechanism available to players in online Texas Hold'em, including basic timing and time bank, also refers to the behavior of players using time for strategic delay.

Online Timing

Online Timing is a time limit mechanism set by online poker platforms for each hand or action, designed to maintain game pace while giving players reasonable thinking time. It typically consists of two parts: a base thinking time per action (e.g., 15–30 seconds) and a Time Bank, an additional total reserve time (e.g., 30–60 seconds) that players can use during critical decisions. When the base time runs out, the system automatically consumes the Time Bank; if the Time Bank is exhausted and no action is taken, it is ruled as a Fold.

On a strategic level, online timing can be used for multiple purposes. The length of thinking time often reflects hand strength: a quick bet may indicate a strong hand or a bluff, while a long tank suggests a complex decision or a marginal hand. Some players intentionally delay to disrupt opponents' rhythm, induce impatience, or gather information by observing opponents' reactions to delays. This tactic must be used with caution, as abuse may lead to platform warnings or bans.

Different platforms have varying rules for replenishing Time Banks: typically, the Time Bank is replenished upon reaching the final table, in critical pots, or at the start of each level. Additionally, some platforms allow players to purchase or accumulate extra Time Bank time. Advanced players allocate their Time Bank wisely, reserving sufficient time for complex calculations in deep-stacked or large pots to avoid errors due to timeouts.

The online timing mechanism has also given rise to stylistic differences between "instant decision" and "long tank" play. Tight-aggressive players (TAG) often act quickly to apply pressure, while solid players may use the full time to minimize errors. Understanding and utilizing online timing is an important skill for adapting to the online poker environment.
