UTG+1 75bb Resteal(UTG+1 75bb Resteal)

UTG+1 75bb Resteal

When holding approximately 75 big blinds in the UTG+1 position, a re-raise to resteal against an earlier player's blind steal raise.

Term Explanation

Resteal is a poker strategy where a player fights back by re-raising when an opponent attempts to steal the blinds (usually from late position or the blinds), aiming to regain control of the pot. UTG+1 (the first position after the UTG) is an early position, typically considered to have a tight range, but with a stack depth of around 75bb, there is enough chips to execute an effective Resteal.

Strategic Considerations

  • Position Disadvantage: UTG+1 is relatively early; after a Resteal, there are still several players yet to act, facing the risk of being called or re-raised. Therefore, you should choose higher-quality hands (e.g., medium pairs, suited connectors, or strong Ace-high hands) for a Resteal.
  • Stack Depth: 75bb is a medium stack, suitable for a standard 3bet raise (around 8-12bb) – enough to apply pressure without overcommitting. Too short a stack may lack deterrence, while too deep a stack increases risk.
  • Opponent Tendencies: Resteals are most effective against players who steal blinds frequently and fold often. Avoid using it too often against tight-passive or calling-station opponents.

Typical Example

Assume blinds are 1/2, and you are in UTG+1 with 150 chips (75bb). Everyone folds to you, you raise to 6bb. A middle position player calls, and the cutoff raises to 18bb. If you judge that the cutoff is likely stealing, you could re-raise to 45bb as a Resteal, forcing them to fold or put themselves in a disadvantageous spot.

Notes

Restealing should not be used too frequently, as opponents will adjust. Also, balance your range so that not all Resteals are value hands.
