枪口位主动入池率(VPIP from UTG)

VPIP from UTG

The frequency of voluntarily putting money into the pot from the UTG Under the Gun position, usually expressed as a percentage, measures the tightness or looseness of a player's starting hand range in that position.

Concept Analysis

VPIP (Voluntarily Put Money In Pot) refers to the frequency with which a player voluntarily puts money into the pot, excluding mandatory blind postings. UTG (Under the Gun) is the first position to act preflop, located to the left of the big blind. Therefore, VPIP from UTG specifically refers to the proportion of hands in which a player, when in the UTG position, voluntarily calls, raises, or bets, out of all possible hands.

Typical Range

Generally, a tight-aggressive player's VPIP from UTG is around 10%-15%, meaning they only enter pots with about the top 10%-15% of starting hands (e.g., high pairs, high cards, suited connectors). Loose-aggressive players may have a VPIP of over 20%, but too high an entry rate from UTG is susceptible to pressure from later position players, and over the long run may be negative expected value (-EV).

Strategic Significance

UTG is one of the worst positions because you act first postflop and there are many players behind you. Therefore, VPIP from UTG should be relatively tight to avoid putting too many chips into the pot with marginal hands out of position. This statistic is an important indicator for evaluating a player's preflop range: a low VPIP suggests a player has strict starting hand selection, while a high VPIP suggests the player may be too loose and prone to difficulties postflop.

Data Interpretation

  • < 10%: Extremely tight; usually only plays super-strong hands (e.g., AA, KK, AK), but may be too conservative and get blinded out.
  • 10%-15%: Reasonable tight-aggressive range; typically includes pairs, high cards, and some suited connectors (e.g., 98s).
  • 15%-20%: On the loose side; may include more small/medium pairs or suited connectors, but postflop execution skills are important.
  • > 20%: Very loose; usually a clear leak when played from UTG unless opponents are very passive or the player has a significant skill advantage.
