WTSD from UTG
WTSD from UTG
WTSD from UTG Refers to the frequency with which a player enters a pot from the under-the-gun UTG position and ultimately reaches showdown.
WTSD (Went to Showdown) is a metric in Texas Hold'em that measures how often a player who enters a pot goes to showdown, usually expressed as a percentage. When this data is limited to the under the gun position (UTG, the first to act preflop), it is called "WTSD from UTG".
Position and Range
UTG is the most disadvantageous position preflop because later players have positional advantage and may hold strong hands. Therefore, the starting hand range from UTG is typically tighter, mainly covering high pairs, big high cards (AK, AQ, etc.), and some suited connectors. Since the range is relatively strong, the WTSD from UTG is generally higher than from other positions, as players are more inclined to go to showdown with strong hands.
Data Interpretation
- High WTSD from UTG (e.g., above 45%): May indicate that the player calls too much from UTG or folds too little postflop, easily getting into marginal spots.
- Low WTSD from UTG (e.g., below 35%): Suggests the player has a tighter range from UTG and is more willing to fold postflop under pressure, possibly being too conservative.
- Comparison with overall WTSD: If this data is significantly lower than overall WTSD, it may indicate a higher proportion of bluffs or semi-bluffs from this disadvantageous position.
Practical Application
In data analysis, WTSD from UTG combined with VPIP (Voluntarily Put Money In Pot) and PFR (Preflop Raise) can more accurately determine an opponent's style. For example, tight-aggressive players (TAG) usually have a WTSD from UTG in the 35%-45% range; loose-aggressive players (LAG) may have a higher value, but note that their range is wider.
Notes
This data requires a large sample size (recommended at least several hundred hands) to be statistically meaningful and is influenced by table dynamics and opponent skill. Using this data in isolation may be biased; it should be evaluated in combination with postflop data (e.g., AF, W$WSF).
